ALLIANCES

Alliances are a powerful and inexpensive way to increase your influence among the nations of the world. There are five types of alliances (descriptions follow) and all cost a portion of your income each turn to maintain. When you have entered into a pact you are bound to its terms for at least 72 hours and will be unable to break the agreement during that time.

Types Of Alliances
Defensive Each member of a defensive pact is committed to contributing up to 25% of its active forces to the defense of other pact members. The defended country’s own strength cannot be more than doubled in the process so this pact is most efficient among countries who share similar-sized defense forces.
Offensive Each member of an offensive pact is committed to contributing up to 25% of its active forces in supporting other pact members during standard or planned attacks. As in the defensive alliance, the attacking country’s own strength cannot be more than doubled in the process so this pact is also most efficient among countries who share similar-sized offensive forces.
Research The free exchange of information benefits all contributors in this alliance. As advances are achieved, a certain percentage of technology in each category is shared, but only among those members who have already obtained some of that same technology. Without some basic research in a particular category, your labs are unable to assimilate contributions of more advanced technologies.
Intelligence To engage in and defend against espionage, allied countries can allow limited access to each others intelligence services. The extent of their cooperation is secret, but in times of need each country will contribute spies and information suitable to the situation.
Trade Pact Simplest of all is the Trade Pact. This alliance provides for shared country reports, but is limited to allowing foreign aid between members.
